March Volunteer Event

Our 2022 Volunteers loaded up two Uhauls with household furnishings and moved them into the homes of two Ruth’s Refuge clients. Unsurprisingly, they were TOTAL PROS!

The Ruth’s Refuge volunteer event is back by popular demand!

On March 25th, an LFC Brooklyn crew will gather to move furnishings into the nearby apartment of a Ruth’s Refuge client. This could mean anything from loading/unloading a delivery truck to assembling furniture (details to come as the event approaches). Ruth’s Refuge provides furniture and home essentials to refugees and asylum seekers rebuilding their lives in New York City. Our 2022 volunteers loved the opportunity to support and welcome these newcomers, so, we go again!

We’re very thankful to those who generously supported this organization during our December fundraising, and now want to provide the opportunity for members who would like to donate their time. Sign up below to join us in creating a bright spot in this roller coaster of a season.

WHEN: March 25th (Note, if you’re attending The Anfield Wrap show on March 25th, we’ll be done volunteering in early afternoon so you’ll have plenty of time to wash up for the big event).

Registration is now closed for this event! If you’d like to be added to the waitlist to be contacted if there are any openings, please submit your info here. Thank you for your interest!

LFC Brooklyn is proud to support Ruth’s Refuge. Refugees and asylum seekers arrive in New York City with rich and varied life experiences but few tangible assets. Many recently settled families are unable to furnish their homes, often sleeping on the floor as they work to pay off debts, find jobs and otherwise struggle to make their way in an unfamiliar city. The goal at Ruth's Refuge is to welcome these families by providing them with apartment furnishings and other home essentials in partnership with local resettlement agencies. In 2022, they mobilized fast to welcome the many newcomers and with LFC Brooklyn’s support, they have furnished homes for:

  • 26 Afghan families, since the fall of Afghanistan

  • 7 Ukrainian families, since the war in Ukraine

  • 55 households from Central and South America

Since January of 2022, they furnished 100 homes for folks arriving from 22 different countries, providing over $130,000 worth of furnishings and home goods. Learn more about their amazing work.
